Kept in the World
My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.
John 17:15 (NIV)
In His priestly prayer, Jesus makes a surprising request: My prayer is not that You take them out of the world but that You protect them from the evil one. Memory comforting exiles: remaining in the world is plan, never punishment. God never recalls His own from battle; He shields them within it. Presence in the world with heaven's protection.
Removing would be easier; keeping is more glorious. Withdrawn witnesses never enlighten darkness. Jesus prefers shielded saints to absent saints. Memory of His intercession sustains gray Mondays: someone prayed your protection before you existed. The evil one finds doors locked by eternal prayer.
Protection is no exemption from struggle; it guarantees victory. The kept pass through fire without smoke smell, through water without drowning, through the world without worldliness. The shield is a Person: the Father keeps, the Son intercedes, the Spirit seals. The whole Trinity stands permanent watch over each believer.
Today, walk in the world without fearing the world. Work, study, trade, and witness with shielding memory. The evil one roars, but his leash is short and the guard is divine. Holiness in the world stays possible because Jesus's prayer keeps prevailing and winning.
And remain kept: hostile worlds never defeat heaven-shielded saints.
