Called Children of God

That we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

1 John 3:1 (NIV)

John marvels out loud: how great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! Not “staff,” not “volunteers,” not “fans”: children. And he underlines it — that is what we are — like one disbelieving his own luck. Children do not apply, purchase, or earn the status: children are received, adopted, begotten. Our deepest identity is a gift wrapped in love.

A child's humility differs from a servant's: servants bow from duty, children draw near from love. Children ask without ceremony, err and return, take their table seats with no formal invite. And John warns: the reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Whoever ignores the Father finds the children strange — others' misunderstanding seals our sonship; it never signals our failure.

Live as a child today: enter his presence unscheduled, ask without bargaining, rest without proving. And treat others as siblings — especially those the world despises. Called children of God: three words outweighing every title you ever chased. Children rest; orphans strive. Live today from received love, not earned approval.
