The Evil God Fights

· Topic: forgiveness

The Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.

Exodus 17:16 (NIV)

After defeating the Amalekites, Moses records a solemn oath: the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation. Amalek had struck Israel from behind, killing the weary at the rear — cowardice God never forgot. Notice: the war belongs to the Lord, not to Moses. God takes on himself the fight against systemic evil, the kind repeating generation after generation, which no human strength extinguishes alone.

This frees our forgiveness. Forgiving people never means tolerating evil: God forgives sinners and wars against sin, calling us to do likewise. We can forgive the offender while fighting injustice; embrace the repentant while exposing oppression. Mistaking persons for patterns errs on both sides — whoever hates people in justice's name, and whoever excuses evil in love's name.

Separate the wars today: forgive whoever hurt you — release, bless, move on. And enlist in the right war, the Lord's: against lies, violence, and corruption crossing generations. The evil God fights is not yours to fight with hatred; it is his, and he has already sworn victory. Your battle is forgiveness; his battle is justice. Fight yours with mercy and leave his to heaven.
