The Gift Is Not Bought
Peter answered: May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!
Acts 8:20 (NIV)
Simon offered money for the Spirit; Peter answered: may your money perish with you! Peace money never buys. God's gift enters no auction. Simony attempts shopping grace; grace carries no price, already paid at crosses. Full wallets never impress heaven.
Because you thought you could buy God's gift with money?: rebuke exposing mercantile hearts. Simon thought with market logic knocking miracles' door. True peace is born repenting, never transacting. Whoever tries buying the Spirit loses peace and money. Conversion accepts no cards.
Peter ordered repentance and prayer, hoping pardon. Peace owns a road: repentance. Simon requested prayer, an initial awe sign. The church guards gifts' door with discernment and mercy. Discipline wounding to heal is surgery, never aggression. Truth spoken lovingly restores even simonies.
Today, examine your spiritual shopping: trying earning grace with offerings, fasts, positions? Rest: gifts are received on empty knees. Thank God for what no money buys: pardon, Spirit, peace. Empty hands and broken hearts are heaven's currency.
And receive freely: bought peace is war; gifted peace is rest. Receive freely today. Bought peace wars. Gifted peace rests. Empty hands receive. Kneel low. Rest deeply. Receive daily. Give thanks.
