Desires That Defile

· Topic: purpose

She gave herself as a prostitute to all the elite of the Assyrians and defiled herself with all the idols of everyone she lusted after.

Ezekiel 23:7 (NIV)

Oholibah, the picture of Judah, prostituted herself with the elite of Assyria and defiled herself with the idols of everyone she lusted after. Desire out of place becomes worship out of place. Lust is misdirected worship: the heart kneels before whatever it admires. Whoever lusts after idols marries them in the end.

Made to know God, she gave herself to the best of Assyria. Purpose corrupted at the root. Whoever forgets why they exist sells out to the first foreign shine. The Assyrian elite looked like power and protection; it was contamination in gala uniform. Every idol charges in holiness what it promises in status.

Today, identify your Assyrians: which elite do you crave? Approval, pleasure, power, wealth. Watch the ancient pattern: first lust, then surrender, finally defilement. Unconfessed desires become unrecognized gods. Naming them already begins defeating them. Bring each craving into the light today.

Desire is not killed, it is redirected. Crave what is holy with equal intensity. Hunger for God cleanses hunger for idols. Hearts full of His presence hold no room for spiritual prostitution. Fill yourself today until you overflow with holy wants.

And choose purity: hearts lusting for God are never for sale.
