The Outstretched Arm
And I will stretch out my hand against them and make the land a desolate waste from the desert to Diblah — wherever they live. Then they will know that I am the Lord.
Ezekiel 6:14 (NIV)
Ezekiel announces judgment on the high places of idolatry: God would stretch out His hand and make the land a desolate waste, from the desert to Diblah, wherever the people lived. Judgment with a fixed address and reach. No geography shelters idols. Where God's arm stretches, mountains and valleys obey alike.
The closing clause reveals the purpose: then they will know that I am the Lord. Even desolation serves revelation. God's severest acts carry a teaching intent: making Himself known. Divine judgment is a lesson, never cruelty. God prefers desolate lands to deceived hearts any day.
Today, ask which high places you still keep. Modern idols wear respectable names: security, image, control, pleasure. God lays waste whatever competes with Him, not to destroy you but to reveal Himself to you. Unexplained losses may be outstretched arms. Look for His face inside every ruin.
Desolations that teach outweigh comforts that deceive. Examine your recent rubble: what did God want you to know through it? Purpose turns debris into school. Whoever learns in desolation never needs to repeat the class. Bring your losses to Him and leave with lessons.
And surrender the altars: whoever loses idols gains the Lord.
