All Will Drink the Cup
The king of Sheshach will drink it too.
Jeremiah 25:26 (NIV)
Jeremiah lists universal judgment's menu: all northern kings and kingdoms will drink wrath's cup — and after them all, Sheshach's king will drink too. Sheshach, Babylon's codename, the hour's superpower: even she drinks. No empire escapes tabs; no power outgrows cups. Divine justice winks at no giants.
Courage living under empires grows from such certainty. Tyrants look eternal in newscasts, temporary in eternity: Assyria fell, Babylon fell, Rome fell. Cups circulate — servers one day drink next. Christians under pressure rest in such queues: today's oppressors are tomorrow's history; Kingdoms remain. Fear of men shrinks before cup-serving Gods.
Handing your giants to the Cupbearer today: naming oppressors, trusting judgments, living peacefully. All will drink the cup: the proud first, the humble never.
Divine cups hold exact measures. Trusting unfailing justice today. Trust fully and rest deeply. Divine cups never spill accidentally. Trust today heaven's exact justice measures. Proud drink first; humble never taste wrath. Wait peacefully for turnings. Serve grace cups while awaiting justice cups. Thirsty neighbors need mercy today. Justice coming should soften hearts presently. Pour kindness freely and widely.
And while waiting, serving grace's cup to surrounding thirsty.
