He Slept in the Boat
As they sailed, he fell asleep.
Luke 8:23 (NIV)
Luke records the Gospel's serenest contrast: as they sailed, he fell asleep — and squalls crashed onto lakes, swamping boats in great danger. Jesus sleeping; disciples panicking. Waters' Creator snoring over them while creatures trembled. Divine sleep amid human chaos: either absolute Father-faith or — disciples thought — absolute disregard.
Storm overcoming learns from the Sleeper. Disciples woke Jesus accusingly — “don't you care?” — and He calmed winds and hearts with one voice. Double lesson: first, storms obey Christ sleeping or waking; second, panic never hastens deliverances. Boats carrying Jesus sink only if He sinks — and He never sinks.
Sleeping with Him in storms today: surrendering helms prayerfully, resting on promises, waking sans reproach. He slept in boats: if He rests, rest too.
Sleep in storms is exercised faith. Practicing today, sleeping peacefully. Sleep well tonight. Resting travelers arrive refreshed divinely. Sleep today aboard with Christ peacefully. Surrendered helms steer straightest courses. Wake without reproach, sail without fear. Storms obey sleepers trusting perfectly. Practice peace amid waves daily. Faith naps while fears row frantically. Rest deeply tonight and always.
And when He rises, watching: winds hush, disciples learn, faith grows.
