Sober to Give Thanks

· Topic: gratitude

Woe to those who rise early in the morning to run after their drinks.

Isaiah 5:11 (NIV)

Isaiah denounces a destroying habit: woe to those rising early to chase drinks, heating themselves with wine till night. Dawn dedicated to drinking, evenings warmed by alcohol — whole days hijacked by cups. Wine, God's gift for gladdening hearts, turned lord of mornings and nights. Every out-of-place pleasure becomes prison: starting as celebration, ending as captivity.

Gratitude demands sobriety. Drunken hearts never thank — they complain, forget, waste. Hijacked mornings never pray; anesthetized nights never reflect. Isaiah condemns no feasting, only fleeing: using pleasure to dodge life. The sober perceive blessings; the drunk perceive lacks. Gratitude is clarity's child — and clarity wants clean heads.

Examine your “wines” today: what hijacks mornings and nights — screens, work, drink, worry? Fast from fleeing, feast on presence: trading one anesthesia hour for gratitude's hour. Sober to give thanks: clear mornings see God; clean nights rest in him.

Daily clarity, daily thanks. Grace's cup never intoxicates — only overflows. Hijacked hours never return voluntarily. Reclaim mornings for prayer and nights for reflection today. Fast from one fleeing habit this week. Clarity compounds like interest in heaven's bank. Sober minds perceive blessings; cloudy ones miss them entirely.
