The Firstfruits Are His
All the land's firstfruits that they bring to the Lord will be yours.
Numbers 18:13 (NIV)
In organizing priestly support, God decrees: all the land's firstfruits that they bring to the Lord will be yours, the priests'. The firstfruits — the first and best — belonged to God before reaching any table. Harvest after harvest, Israel learned provision has an Owner: working the soil is our duty, but fertilizing it is his grace. Giving first confesses who is First.
Humility practices firstfruits in every area. Not only with money — though wallets are the most honest thermometer — but with time, talents, schedules: God first, then the rest. Whoever gives leftovers wordlessly declares God gets scraps; whoever gives first declares everything came from him. And promise attends: all the ceremonially clean could eat — gratitude's table runs full for clean hearts.
Separate your firstfruits today: the day's first hour, income's first portion, your energy's best for the Kingdom. Give God neither the month's nor the day's leftovers. The firstfruits are his — and whoever honors the First never finishes last. Firstfruits declare trust before results ever appear. Give God the first portion of everything and watch him multiply the rest. Those who honor him early never finish last.
