The Persecutor Reached
Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?
Acts 26:14 (NIV)
Before King Agrippa, Paul tells the moment everything changed: all fell to the ground, and he heard a voice in Aramaic — Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? The church's greatest persecutor was reached mid-journey, on his way to arrest Christians. Jesus did not wait for Saul to improve before calling him; he called him by name at the peak of his violence. Grace always arrives before repentance.
This story changes how we see difficult people. That hostile colleague, that relative who mocks the faith, that impossible neighbor — any of them may be a Saul on the Damascus road. No one is too far for the voice that knocks down and lifts up at once. Paul, who approved Stephen's death, became the apostle who wrote about love. If God did that with him, he can do it with anyone.
Today, instead of giving up on someone hard, pray for them as Ananias prayed for Saul: afraid, yet obeying. And if you are the one who has been hounding God with indifference, hear the voice calling your name. Kicking against the goads only brings pain — surrender brings life.
