Grace and Peace to You
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:2 (NIV)
Every letter of Paul opens almost the same way: grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. It looks like a greeting formula, but it is miniature theology. Grace first — the favor we never earned — then peace — what follows for whoever receives grace. The order never flips: no one holds real peace without first receiving grace. Paul wished this on whole churches before addressing any of their problems.
Love learns from this greeting: wish good before demanding good. How many conversations would start differently if the first sentence were blessing instead of billing? “Grace and peace” is the opposite of the tension-loaded “we need to talk.” Whoever truly loves blesses first and corrects later — and only corrects because they first blessed.
Today, try opening the day and your conversations with grace and peace: a message wishing someone well, a silent prayer for the difficult colleague, a heartfelt “God bless you.” Small greetings carry big theologies. Let grace and peace arrive first — and let them arrive through you. Whoever arrives blessing rarely needs to apologize later for arriving wounding. Small greetings open large doors.
