Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked.

Psalms 1:1 (NIV)

The first psalm opens not with a command but with a blessing about company: blessed is the one who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers. The psalm is not preaching isolation but direction: instead of meditating day and night on opinions that mock God, the blessed person delights in the law of the Lord. The heart needs a seat to sit in — the question is which one.

Look at your company today: who has been shaping your mood, your words, your decisions? Thank God for the friends who draw you closer to him, and set boundaries with the voices that pull you away. And go further: decide to be good company in someone's life — the friend who prays along, who speaks the truth in love, who pulls upward.
