Sent Together Into the World
Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
Mark 16:20 (NIV)
On resurrection morning, no one walked to the tomb alone. Mary Magdalene, Salome, and Mary the mother of James walked together while it was still dark, carrying spices and questions — including who would roll the stone away from the entrance. The stone was already rolled away. And the news they received was too big for one person to carry: he has risen.
Mark closes his Gospel with the scene that sums up the Christian life in community: Jesus sends his own into all the world to preach the good news to all creation, and the disciples went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them. Notice: the sending is plural, the mission is shared, and the partnership is divine. No one was called to carry the Gospel alone, nor to shine alone.
Your most precious relationships may be exactly these: people with whom you share the walk in the dark, the discovery of the rolled-away stone, and the work of telling. Faith is not a solo project; it is a team journey. Today, instead of living it all by yourself, find your “together”: pray with someone, serve with someone, tell someone what God has been doing. The resurrection sounds best in the plural.
