Contend for the Faith

· Topic: faith

Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.

Jude 1:3 (NIV)

Jude changed subjects urgently: I felt writing urging contending for saints-entrusted faith. Fighting faith, never strolling. False teachers infiltrated feasts; Jude summoned holy war. Truth-love wields swords. Passive faith loses ground; militant faith guards deposits. Battling is loving helmeted.

Although eager writing about shared salvation: Jude preferred singing, needed warring. Faith adapts themes losing no essence. Shared salvation motivates shared battle. Sweetness and combat dwell in one letter. Churches only singing disarm; only quarreling empty. Apostolic balance: celebrate battling.

For once-for-all entrusted faith: closed deposits, never open to novelties. Received faith, never invented. Battling guards originals against counterfeits. Revisions denying foundations get fought. Faith's antiquity is credential, never defect. Once-for-all anchors all forevers.

To saints: faith entrusted to common folk, never elites. Saints battle better than debaters. People's faith sustains churches in crises. Every saint is deposit soldiers. Your daily battle — prayer, purity, witness — guards historic faith. Faithful soldiers win long wars.

And battle believing: militant faiths guard deposits. Battle believing today. Militant faiths guard. Stand armed. Fight good. Hold ground. Hold ground and wield swords. Pray hard. Watch well. March. Charge. Charge boldly and never retreat. Win souls. Keep faith.
