The Righteous Branch
The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.
Jeremiah 23:5 (NIV)
The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch. Memory of promise in days of evil shepherds. Jeremiah denounced scattering kings; God announced the gathering King. When presents rot, promises bloom. Hope owns name and genealogy: David's Branch.
A King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. Memory of the still-future perfect reign. Human kings fail; the Branch never. Wisdom without corruption, justice without partiality, right without price. Every frustrated election renews hunger for the true King. Ballots disappoint; His throne never.
To David: the Davidic covenant would bloom in Nazareth and reign from eternal Jerusalem. Memory crossing exiles: Babylon never canceled promise. Empires fall, the Branch sprouts. God fulfills across centuries what He promises in days. Waiting centuries pays when fruit is eternal.
Today, anchor memory in promise: the King comes. Vote, work, pray, but wait only on Him. Evil days are contraction, never conclusion. The righteous Branch already sprouted in the manger and returns in glory. Live as an early subject of the coming kingdom.
And await the Branch: promise memories sustain evil days.
