Princes Like Snow
Their princes were brighter than snow and whiter than milk, their bodies more ruddy than rubies, their appearance like sapphires.
Lamentations 4:7 (NIV)
Jeremiah remembers what princes were: brighter than snow, whiter than milk, bodies ruddy as rubies, appearance like sapphires. Memory of glory in times of ashes. Lamentations keeps portraits of splendor to measure the fall. Remembering what we were hurts and teaches simultaneously.
Whiteness speaks of lost purity; brightness, of extinguished glory. Princes made to reflect God ended reflecting ruins. Memory without repentance becomes torture; with repentance, a map home. God permits Eden's memory to awaken hunger for return. Holy homesickness is a compass pointing upward.
But memory also exposes: outer shine without inner fear cracks under first pressure. Apparent sapphires hid common clay. Captivity revealed the true material. God prefers simple, whole vessels to shiny, hollow princes. Character sustains what cosmetics cannot hold together.
Today, honor memory without dwelling in it. Thank Him for snow days, repent the mud days, rebuild true glory days. Fallen princes may rise washed. The same hand that recorded the fall writes restoration for whoever returns home.
And remember with hope: past snows announce future purities. Remember with hope today. Past snows announce purities. Fallen princes rise washed. God restores brightness. Hope restores. Rise washed. Remember daily.
