Cut to the Root
Your hand must be the first in putting him to death.
Deuteronomy 13:9 (NIV)
Moses commands zero tolerance for seductive idolatry: you must certainly put him to death — your hand first. Shocking harshness for modern ears, yet principles cross testaments: idolatry kills souls, souls deserve radical surgery. Jesus later said: if eyes cause stumbling, gouge them. Same logic, newer covenant.
Overcoming idols demands root-cutting, never branch-trimming. Trying to “moderate” pet sins — a little pornography, social sips, useful fibs — waters roots hoping trees die. They never die. Uprooted roots never sprout; trimmed branches regrow. Let your hand strike first: nobody can cut for you what only you feed.
Uproot one root today: deleting apps, blocking contacts, confessing to pastors, cutting cards. Cut to the root: one day's pain, lifetimes' freedom.
Dead roots hold nobody longer. Uprooting today, walking light. Cut deep today. Small tolerances breed lifelong captivities. Cut today without anesthesia and walk free. Negotiating with idols always loses eventually. Burn bridges behind retreating steps. Uprooted pasts fertilize free futures richly. Till new soil with obedient hands. Freedom grows where roots died completely. Harvest liberty seasonally and gratefully. Stay free permanently. Guard freedom fiercely.
And watching regrowth: stubborn roots need weekly Scripture reviews.
