Greater Than Jacob
Are you greater than our father Jacob?
John 4:12 (NIV)
The Samaritan measures Jesus by history: are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us this well? Jacob — patriarch, tribes' father, centuries-old well owner. Legitimate questioning, explosive answer: yes, He is greater. Greater than Jacob, temples, Solomon. Jesus never competes with past giants; He transcends them. Wells hold exhaustible water; He gives fountain water.
Courage believes the Greater before life's “Jacobs.” Family traditions, definitive diagnoses, inherited debts, ancient sins — deep wells dug by giants. The woman's question echoes within: is He greater than this? The well's answer is yes, always yes. Drinkers of living water never return carrying buckets and ropes.
Present your Jacob to Jesus today: problems too big, old, deep. Greater than Jacob: declaring it aloud, drinking from fountains.
Living fountains gush into eternity. Drinking today, thirsting never again. Drink deeply today. Old wells run dry; living fountains never fail. Drink today from Christ directly. Buckets and ropes belong to museums. Thirst no more starting now. Giants of history bow to present Glory. Traditions serve; they never save. Meet the Greater and live larger daily.
And telling like Samaritans: entire cities believed through one convert's witness.
