Friends of the Roof
Lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on.
Mark 2:4 (NIV)
Four men carry a paralytic to Jesus, finding the house packed. Quit? Never: they climb the roof, remove part of the covering, and lower their friend through the opening, right before Christ. Picture it — dust falling, heads turning upward, Jesus pausing his sermon, smiling. Those four's faith pierced the roof before touching God's heart. Jesus saw their faith — plural — healing the friend.
Every family needs roof friends. Some paralyses families cannot solve alone: addictions, depressions, debts, long illnesses. Then God sends the four — people carrying us when we cannot walk, opening roofs when doors shut, unoffended by crowds blocking the way. And we are called to be someone's four: carrying in prayer, insisting creatively, celebrating others' healing.
Name your paralytic today — whom must you carry? — and your roof — which obstacle must you pierce? Never accept full houses as final answers. Roof friends never watch from afar: they climb, open, and lower friends to Jesus. Crowds never stop determined carriers. Climb higher when doors shut: pray creatively, insist lovingly, involve others quickly. Someone's healing waits on your refusal to quit. Be the four friends today — shoulder the mat, pierce the roof, deliver to Jesus.
