The Father of Spirits
How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live!
Hebrews 12:9 (NIV)
Hebrews argues from lesser to greater: we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them — how much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! Just paternal discipline breeds respect, not trauma. If flawed fathers sometimes get it right, how much more the perfect Father. Submitting to God is no humiliation but life's path: living here means surrendering.
Faith receives correction as a birth certificate. The text says God disciplines those he loves — discipline proves parenthood, never rejection. Whoever goes uncorrected should worry; whoever is corrected should give thanks. Human fathers err in dose and motive; the Father of spirits errs in neither. Each correction of his is surgical: aching exactly where healing is needed.
Review your disciplines today: that closed door, that recent “no,” that aching consequence — could it be the Father's hand? Thank instead of grumbling, adjust instead of resisting. The Father of spirits disciplines so we may live — and truly living starts on your knees. Correction proves sonship; grumbling forfeits its comfort. Thank him for closed doors and adjust quickly. Knees bent today prevent harder falls tomorrow.
