O Lord, what can I say, now that Israel has been routed by its enemies?

Joshua 7:8 (NIV)

Thirty-six dead, army fleeing, people's hearts melted — and Joshua lay prostrate before the ark till evening, then asked: O Lord, what can I say, now that Israel has been routed by its enemies? First defeat in the promised land, right after Jericho's glory. Joshua neither fakes, delegates, nor quits: he carries defeat to God before carrying it to the people. Real faith bleeds in prayer before bleeding in public.

God answers by exposing the hidden cause: sin in the camp — Achan and Jericho's plunder. Defeats have addresses: sometimes tolerated disobedience, sometimes wrong strategy, sometimes simply God's timing. What never works is ignoring Ai and marching as if nothing happened. Joshua wept, investigated, cleansed, and won on retry. After defeat comes either discouragement or diagnosis — choose diagnosis.

Carry your Ai to God today: name the defeat, ask its cause, hear the answer undefended. Confess the hidden Achan, adjust strategy, rise and return. After the defeat at Ai, God still held an entire Canaan awaiting Joshua — and holds one awaiting you. Diagnosis beats discouragement every time. Name the defeat, cleanse the camp, and march again. Canaan still waits beyond Ai.
