May All Go Well With You

I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you.

3 John 1:2 (NIV)

The New Testament's shortest letter opens with a wish spanning centuries: dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. John prays for Gaius's body and circumstances in the same breath that celebrates his healthy soul. Faith never splits spiritual from material: God cares about your check-up and your work as much as your prayer. Wishing well-being is no worldliness; it is love in intercession form.

Notice the delicate condition: “even as your soul is getting along well.” Soul health is the benchmark, not the appendix. Gaius walked in truth, hosted missionaries, lived the Gospel — and John asks his body to match his soul. Order matters: thriving soul first, thriving life second. Whoever reverses it — fit body, empty soul — builds castles on sand. Faith prays whole prosperity, inside out.

Pray John's way for someone today: health, thriving work, advancing projects. And examine your own soul — is it well? If so, ask the rest boldly; if not, start there. May all go well with you, beginning with what no one sees.
