Sin at the Door

Sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.

Genesis 4:7 (NIV)

Before history's first murder, God warned Cain with an unforgettable image: sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it. Sin is pictured as a beast crouched at the entrance, awaiting a crack. God does not say Cain would face no temptation — he says Cain could win. The warning came before the fall, not after. Grace always warns before disciplining.

Humility heeds warnings; pride dismisses them. Cain heard God and still walked out to kill his brother in the field. How many tragedies begin this way — with an ignored alert: the prodding conscience, the warning friend, the uncomfortable verse. Mastering sin happens at the door, not in the living room: once the beast is inside, the fight changes. The humble shut the door early; the proud argue with the beast until mastered.

Name your sin at the door today: the circling temptation, the growing habit, the crouching anger. Do not dialogue with the beast — master it: flee, confess, ask help, pray. God still warns before the fall, and still supplies strength to win at the door. Early obedience beats late regret every time.
