Come Down Quickly
Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.
Luke 19:5 (NIV)
Zacchaeus climbed a tree to see Jesus over the crowd — short, rich, and hated, watching from afar. But Jesus stopped below, looked up, and called him by name: Zacchaeus, come down immediately; I must stay at your house today. The Master did not wait for Zacchaeus to descend before loving him; he loved him in the tree and called him down. Grace always spots first whoever hides.
And Zacchaeus came down at once — no bargaining, no asking for time, no cleaning the house first. True humility obeys fast: it descends from position, from excuses, from the gallery. Many miss their meeting with God arguing in the tree — “I'll change later,” “first I'll fix this,” “I'm not ready.” Zacchaeus teaches the opposite: receive Jesus today, messy house and all, and let transformation happen at the table.
Hear your name called today: come down quickly. Down from pride, from self-sufficiency, from hiding. Jesus wants your house today — not when it is tidy, but now. Whoever comes down quickly dines with the Master. The tree of curiosity became a table of salvation because a short man came down without delay. And a tax collector's house became a feast because Jesus chose to stay.
