Mission Accomplished Side by Side

When Barnabas and Saul had finished their mission, they returned from Jerusalem.

Acts 12:25 (NIV)

Luke records a beautiful moment with simplicity: when Barnabas and Saul had finished their mission, they returned from Jerusalem, taking with them John, also called Mark. This was no homecoming of lone heroes; it was the return of a team. They had carried relief to the brothers in Judea, kept their promise, and even brought a younger man along with them. Mission accomplished — and no one accomplished it alone.

Love grows up when it learns to share the work and the credit. Barnabas, whose name means son of encouragement, spent his life lifting others: he introduced Saul to the apostles, sought him out in Tarsus, shared the mission with him, and now brings Mark into the journey. In the book of Acts, loving almost always means bringing someone along — discipling is love's most repeated verb.

Ask yourself today: whom am I bringing with me? Is there a “Mark” in your life — someone younger in faith or craft — waiting only for an invitation to walk beside you? Love that completes missions collects no trophies; it forms people. Finish well what you started, and finish it accompanied. And when the mission ends, return telling stories — a team's testimony outweighs any solo trophy.
