Splendor Restored

The Lord will restore the splendor of Jacob.

Nahum 2:2 (NIV)

Nahum prophesies against Nineveh, yet mid-judgment a promise shines for God's people: the Lord will restore the splendor of Jacob, the splendor of Israel, though destroyers have laid them waste and ruined their vines. Jacob lay in ruins — vines uprooted, splendor gone, looters strolling through the remains. And right there, in total loss, God announces restoration. He does not wait for things to improve before acting; he acts so they improve.

Humility learns to be restored instead of self-restoring. Our first reflex toward ruin is patching with our own hands: hiding damage, faking splendor, raising walls of appearance. God proposes another way — bringing him the shards and letting him restore. The splendor he returns is no copy of the old; it is new: fresh vines, not mended ones. Whoever accepts restoration receives more than was lost.

Hand God your ruined vines today: the looted dream, the scratched reputation, the trampled joy. Stop patching alone what only he can restore. The Lord restores splendors — and usually starts exactly where the looters passed. Ruin is never the final word when restoration belongs to God himself. Bring him every shard today.
