Wages or Gift
Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation.
Romans 4:4 (NIV)
Paul states principles: working men's wages count not as gifts but debts. Grace's purpose revealed by contrast. If salvation were wages, God would owe; being gifts, God gives. Works charge; faith receives. Workers demand; believers thank. Differences decide eternities.
Now when a man works: Paul uses paycheck logic. Employers owing wages grant no favors paying. So works-righteousness would indebt God to men. Law's purpose never employed but diagnosed. Law shows sin's debt; grace pays bills. Attempting wages where only gifts exist insults Givers.
But as obligation: debts presuppose fulfilled contracts. Nobody fulfilled perfection's contract. All owe; none deserve. Gospel's purpose: turning debtors into heirs. Abraham believed counted righteous — favor, never payroll. Faith signs grace receipts.
Today, choose your regime: merit's payroll or favor's grace? Stop charging God what you can only receive. Work lovingly, never for eternal wages. Your effort's purpose changes when destinations are paid. Rest in favor producing gratefully.
And receive freely: received favors breed works. Receive freely today. Received favors breed. Work gratefully. Rest saved. Trust grace. Trust grace fully. Stop earning. Start thanking. Live free. Rejoice. Rejoice in gifts daily. Boast crosses. Glory grace. Abide. Endure. Shine.
